December: Share Our Strength

There is probably no hunger relief organization that does a better job rallying restaurants to the cause of ending childhood hunger in America than Share Our Strength. Founded by Bill and Debbie Shore in 1984, in the wake of the Ethiopian famine, it is a founding principal of Share Our Strength that we all have “a strength to share in the global fight against hunger and poverty, and that in these shared strengths lie sustainable solutions.” – The Benefit Restaurant™ Project is committed to implementing its plan for sustainable giving to end hunger and fight poverty – and we simply could not agree more!

With their array of creative and inspiring [and fun!] fundraising events that include Taste of the Nation, the Great American Dineout, A Tasteful Pursuit, and Cooking Matters, Share Our Strength has developed an integrative and layered approach to not only raising awareness and raising funds to support hunger relief efforts, but to also identify and encourage partnerships and synergies among organizations and individuals, and particularly restaurants and chefs, who can help.

The Elephant Walk in Waltham is sharing its strength – its participation in The Benefit Restaurant™ Project and its mission to grow the pool of funding available to nonprofits – with Share Our Strength – in December!

This month’s beneficiary

The Winter Quarter theme is FIGHTING HOMELESSNESS. We're proud to give our support this month to the Pine Street Inn which "provides a comprehensive range of services, including permanent supportive housing, job training, emergency shelter and street outreach to over 1,300 homeless men and women each day."
