Can my nonprofit apply to be a Beneficiary?

The short answer is: no.

But that’s not necessarily a bad thing – especially if we all recognize that growing the pool of funding available for nonprofits, and eliminating friction, or waste, in the nonprofit funding process are both desirable. We think they’re are two critically important aspects of the Benefit Restaurant™ Project funding model.

Some of the reasons for having no application process for nonprofits are:

  • Applications and grant requests take time and cost money, both to write and to review and compare. We want beneficiary-nonprofits and donor-restaurants to preserve their resources.
  • It’s no fun to turn organizations down, or to explain why an organization was not chosen. This way donor-restaurants don’t have to do that.
  • Donor-restaurants like to surprise their beneficiaries!

But we certainly encourage you to make participating restaurants’ owners aware of your organization. It makes you easier for them to find. Just make sure that you are aware of a donor-restaurant’s funding mission.

Currently, for three quarters of the year The Elephant Walk is focusing on the fight against Poverty and three of it’s core battlefronts: Ending Hunger, Ending Homelessness, and Improving Education. For the remaining three months it’s focusing on three ways actively engage in giving back: Voluntarism [giving time], Philanthropy [giving money], and implementing a new approach to solving a social problem [social entrepreneurship]. – If your organization doesn’t fit neatly within those categories, the only avenue open to you at this time with The Elephant Walk is hosting a Monday Benefit Dinner.

[Note: The Elephant Walk's Monthly Beneficiaries are set for the time being. No changes are anticipated for the foreseeable future.]

This month’s beneficiary

The Winter Quarter theme is FIGHTING HOMELESSNESS. We're proud to give our support this month to the Pine Street Inn which "provides a comprehensive range of services, including permanent supportive housing, job training, emergency shelter and street outreach to over 1,300 homeless men and women each day."
